The Oinking "Neighbour from Hell"

Today, in Bedford, a tenant was convicted for some quite bizarre behaviour. Stephen Aylott was charged £7850 in compensation and put on a restraining order from his neighbours who he had disturbed and stressed for over four years.

Neighbours reported that Aylott’s behaviour was “erratic” and left them feeling “on edge at all times”.

He often used to mock the neighbours and taunt them about their weight. He would call them pigs and make oinking noises and often threw magazine articles about weight loss over the fence. The neighbours could also find no peace in their own gardens as Aylott would always start his lawnmower whenever they wanted to spend time outdoors. Indoors, Aylott was just as noisy with constant door slamming and had even made attempts to drive into the neighbours’ vehicle.

Victim statements further revealed the damage this was having on their lives,

“Aylott’s antics have causes us a lot of alarm, distress and irreversible damage.”

“This has caused stress to the point where my wife’s hair has fallen out.”

Being 53 years of age, Aylott was not recommended an order for community service by probation officers. It also had to be taken into consideration the fact that Aylott had suffered serious brain injuries in 1984 following a motorcycle accident. However, defender Imran Khan acknowledged that Aylott’s fundamental problems were with his memory and that his he knows the difference between right and wrong.

Aylott eventually accepted that he had acted wrongly, and that his actions constituted harassment. The Aragon Housing Association say they are “working closely with other agencies involved in the case in order that actions are taken as appropriate and hope the required outcomes are achieved.
