Top Property Hotspots in the UK - places to rent out

Posted : 18/05/2015 | By Alan Ciles

Being a landlord you need to make an informed choice of areas in which to buy property. Shrewd investors will look for property in areas with growing employment, steady population growth and good transportation links, with properties achieving an attractive annual yield.

Best areas in UK for Landlords to buy

London

Elephant & Castle, London - With a current £1.5 billion regeneration underway, this area has rental flats securing approximately 5% annual gross yield.

Limehouse, London - Thanks to both the improved road and rail network and due to the City’s finance industry regrowing, this area has some choice value properties.

Kew, London - Although Kew Village property prices are very high, good investment opportunities for rental properties can be found north of the Thames.

The South East

Hythe, Kent - The port town of Hythe has views of the English Channel and is only three miles from Folkestone where there is a high speed train service to St Pancras. This means Hythe has a great opportunity to become a commuter hotspot.

Woking, Surrey - With easy access to Gatwick and Heathrow airports and being only 25 miles from central London, Woking offers some excellent properties including shops, offices and flats. This is all in part thanks to a current £250 million regeneration project.

East Anglia

Cambridge - With over 40% of residents having degrees and the area continuing to attract software and scientific research companies, this area is perfect for the landlord looking to invest.

The Midlands

Birmingham - Love it or hate it, the HS2 high speed railway link to London is coming to Birmingham. This has now restarted paused development. 1150 homes are planned to be built at Icknield Port Loop.

The North

Manchester - With such a vibrant city as Manchester it won’t let you down with plenty of opportunities for the landlord. The BBC recently relocated from London to Salford.

Rotherham, Yorkshire - Over the last ten years Rotherham has benefited from a £500 million investment. Even now investment is continuing with a brand new railway station and a 12000 capacity football stadium currently under construction.

Wales

Pencoed, Mid Glamorgan - This growing community in South Wales is linked to London by the nearby M4.
