Lucy Alexander, presenter of Homes Under the Hammer, has recently announced that she is leaving the television show after 13 years. This has been a shock for fans of the show and comes shortly after another BBC resignation from Chris Evans, opting to leave Top Gear after only one series.
Homes Under the Hammer is a popular property auction and renovation show which airs every week day at 10am. Martin Roberts has been presenting the show with Lucy since it first started, with former footballer Dion Dublin joining the team last year.
Lucy announced the news on twitter saying ‘It’s with a huge heavy heart I’m stepping down, it’s not the outcome I wanted but to pursue other work and a commercial deal I have to leave’. It is obvious that she is extremely sad to be leaving the show after all these years and has also said she will miss her ‘TV husband’ Martin Roberts. Although she will be leaving, Lucy will still be on our screens having already filmed the next series, she will also be in repeats of the show which is in its 20th series.
Fans reacted to Lucy’s twitter in shock and sadness, some humorously linking the announcement with the recent Brexit news.
Dan McGolphin, BBC’s Daytime Controller, thanked Lucy on twitter for all her years of service writing ‘Over the last 13 years, millions of viewers have enjoyed Lucy’s infectious enthusiasm for property renovation; she has inspired many of us to improve our homes or to invest and improve properties that badly need it – Britains housing stock owes her a great debt!’. From the huge response to Lucy’s departure it is clear she will be dearly missed by co-workers and fans alike.
Lucy has said she felt it was ‘time for a change’ and it has been announced that she is taking up the position of Brand Ambassador at Carpet Right. This is an exciting new role in which she can share her expert property knowledge with customers trying to get ‘the right look and feel for their homes’. She has posted a series of tweets and photos of her new role which seems to be going extremely well.
