Rebecca Evans, the Welsh Government’s housing minister, has recently tweeted her intentions of an imminent ban on agents' fees, following the results of a formal consultation process regarding tenant's charges from agents.

She tweeted: “More than half of those who responded to our consultation support banning fees charged to tenants in the private rented sector. ... I’ve already announced I intend to bring forward a Bill which bans fees in the private rented sector: these consultation findings add to the evidence that action is needed ...”

It was widely reported in December of the Welsh Government's intentions of introducing an agent's fees ban and her tweet confirms that this will be in the very near future.

The government received more than 680 responses from landlords and tenants by the September deadline date for the consultation last September.

The results revealed:

• 86% said fees had affected whether they would use an agent;
• 61% of landlords had no real idea of how much tenants were charged and for exactly what.
• 62% of tenants stated that because of agent's fees it had a real impact on being able to move into a rented 'home'.
