Landlord’s Unsuccessful Tribunal Appeal Ends In £16,000 Fine Upheld

Following complaints from tenants about the landlord’s property living conditions, the council’s housing team visited the accommodation and inspectors confirmed their fears of hazards which included faulty electrical issues, the house having insufficient heating facilities and being extremely cold.

North Norfolk council issued the landlord with an Improvement Notice and because he failed to undertake the necessary repairs within the stated deadline, the council then issued a Financial Penalty.

Leader of the Council, Tim Adams says: “If you are a private landlord, it is your responsibility to make sure that the property you are letting out is safe for tenants and is in good condition as to not represent a hazard to the health of those tenants.??“I am pleased that the Residential Property Tribunal has upheld the financial penalty notice and that the landlord has been held accountable to their privately rented property.”

Richard Merrick of PIMS, comments: “This type of ‘rogue’ unfairly ‘labels’ good honest landlords as pariahs across the media. I do wonder if this individual will ever be featured on the fifteen minutes of fame ‘Rogues Gallery’.”
