Despite there may be a new party or parties in control after May 7th, the Universal Credit bandwagon is being rolled out aggressively throughout the country. There is a major second tranche of rollouts from May to July.
It needs to be understood that those people who will be receiving “Universal Credits” are not just unemployed; they are those with part-time or low paid jobs and those receiving Child Tax Credits.
Richard Merrick of PIMS says; “Whichever party takes power, the Universal Credit system will still be carried forward, it makes financial sense by cutting down the administration costs.
“Be aware that throughout the country the majority of people going onto the new Benefits system will be workers, some on zero hours contracts who will be paid fortnightly. Parents will now have to budget monthly and some people may find it hard to do this...or just simply abuse it.
“For those areas involved in the second tranche hopefully you will have been contacted by the council....if not contact them immediately, in this instance you can never be too careful.
“The government is stopping payments to jobseekers who do not fulfil their Claimant Commitment, doing the required the number of job applications, community work or employability skills training, so be prepared.”
