Tenants say landlords could do better on safety issues

13th Sep 2015

An Insurance company’s research has found out that according to tenants their landlords need to improve safety and security in their homes.

It is not all doom and gloom regarding landlord and tenant’s relationships as nearly two thirds of tenants polled (59%), felt that their rent was fair and just under half (48%) stated that they had a good relationship with their landlord.

Just 6% of tenants stated that they had a bad or very bad relationship with their landlord, unsurprisingly despite media claims; landlords and tenants demonstrated goodwill and helped each other. However the research does show that tenants feel that their landlords have to drastically improve their activity for safety and security.

The research reports that 43% of landlords fail to carry out the legally required annual gas safety check, 68% have failed to organise the annual electrical inpsepection, and 54% have not installed a fire alarm, with a reported 71% failing to install a carbon monoxide alarm.
