A tenant found guilty of stabbing his landlords to death in 2020 has been found guilty of murder as jurors were told of the horrific bloodbath at scene of the crime.

The jury was told the tenant Daniel Briceno Garcia, 46, unleashed a “a brutal and frenzied attack” on his two landlords Sonia Butron Calvi, 66, and 60-year-old Edgar Aguilera Daza.

The murder took place on April 1st 2020 just after the national lockdown was enforced.

Police found the couple dead at their home in Stockwell, south London, lying in which the Old Bailey heard was a “bloodbath”.  

The couple Calvi and Daza had been subletting rooms in their home to six tenants which included Garcia.

The jury was told by Crown Prosecutor Tom Little QC, that Garcia had anxious concerns about being able to afford his rent and catching Covid.

Little said: ”That in itself you may think is understandable. It is quite another thing to react to the risks which Covid posed with the use of a knife.

 “What was found at the property can only be properly described as a bloodbath.”

Police found the murder weapon in Garcia’s bedroom.

Garcia denied the murder charge however he pleaded guilty to manslaughter because at the time of the murders he heard ‘voices’.

Jurors deliberated for just 45 minutes to find him guilty on two counts of murder.
