Tenant arrested in Galway for suspected landlord murder

25th Sep 2015

The tenant of a suspected murdered landlord was arrested in Galway on suspicion of the crime after being on the run for over a month.

The Welsh man had evaded police custody after detectives launched a hunt for the tenant after his landlord went missing over four weeks ago. The landlord, Alec Warburton, was last seen on July 31st and the police were contacted two days later about his disappearance.

The detectives appealed for any information and received sightings of the landlord’s car in north Wales before being spotted in Swansea some days later. The Peugeot 205 was then found ditched at the Birkenhead port.

The police believe that the tenant was seen to be leaving a ferry in Belfast on 6th August; they have yet to find the landlord’s body and have strong suspicions that he may be murdered.
The tenant was arrested in Galway by the Gardai on Friday 18th September and appeared at a special sitting held by the Galway District Court the following morning.

South Wales Police are looking to extradite the man and a spokesman said: “David Ellis has been arrested in Ireland. We are liaising with the Gardai in relation to his extradition back to the UK.”
