A rogue landlord received his comeuppance for making his tenants live in squalid, life threatening conditions and for his sins was handed a staggering £405,000 fine.

The Lincoln City's magistrates penalised the rogue landlord with the massive fine after the landlord pleaded guilty to twenty eight charges of breaching housing regulations.

The council stated that his tenants living in his properties had to do so under extremely dangerous conditions. Other information described the flats as ‘not cleanable’ because of the many years that the landlord failed in carrying out essential maintenance issues.

This is by far one of the largest ever fines in Lincolnshire that has been handed out to a single landlord. The landlord admitted to breaching fire, health and safety standards in his two rental homes. Each of the properties had been turned into flats and one of the homes is overrun by black mould throughout the rooms; there were no fire exits which could have caused fatalities if a fire started.

In the other property there was a real threat of Legionella bacterium being contracted by the tenants as its hot water supply tank had no lid and covering whatsoever.

Council leader Ric Metcalfe explained the reasoning behind the severity of the fine and commented: "It’s pleasing to see justice has been served against this offender who has, time and time again, exploited his tenants by making them live in appalling conditions, surrounded by many fire and health hazards."
