Just under 25% of MP’s have been found out to be part time residential landlords.

A study, undertaken by a Property Magazine, of the Register of Members’ Interests for the last session of the 2010-2015 parliament revealed that out of the 650 MP’s in the House of Commons, 144 top up their public wage from renting out at least one residential property.

 

Add these to those MP’s with rural land holdings and commercial properties then it comes to 161 MPs.

The analysis draws the conclusion that Tory MPs are most likely to make the bigger gains.

39 % of Conservative MP’s in the House of Commons (302 in total) receive extra income from, rents, additional employment, shares in property firms or sponsorship, whereas between the Labour and Liberal Democrats members these add up to only 20%.

The Conservative come out on top receiving donations, according to the study held by the Electoral Commission It also showed that the Tory’s receive the highest amount of sponsorship/donations from the property industry.

The figures revealed that the Conservatives received over £1.28 million from the Industry whereas Labour came second with £214,000 and the Lib Dems received £178,000.
