Sir Starmer has appointed Labour MP Matthew Pennycook as the principal housing minister in his government.
The MP was the shadow housing minister when the party was in opposition.
And one of his key tasks will be reforming the Renter’s Reform Bill into the new government’s proposed version.
Upon being confirmed in his prestigious role Pennycock tweeted : “It is a real honour to have been appointed Minister of State at the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities. Tackling the housing crisis and boosting economic growth is integral to national renewal. Time to get to work.”
The chief executive of Generation Rent, Dan Wilson Craw, responded by tweeting on first name terms: “Congratulations Matt! We at Generation Rent look forward to working with you on getting tenancy reform done and making renting fairer.”
MP Matthew Pennycock prior to his political career worked for the think tank the Resolution Foundation, was an aide to housing expert Labour MP Karen Buck and is now MP for Greenwich and Woolwich.
