Brexit has had no effect whatsoever in putting off international students coming to study in the UK as it is on the rise not only from EU countries but also from much further afield.
UCAS, the body responsible for dealing with applications for UK universities, has released its latest data that shows a 3.4% rise from EU student applicants outside of the UK wishing to enroll in UK universities, which in total is 43,510 applications received this year.
However there has been major surge of interest from international students outside of the EU, with an 11% increase taking it up to 58,450 applications received.
China's student applications increased by 20% which is 2,000 more from the previous year, India's applications increased by 36% equivalent to an extra 1,180 students, and there was a 52% rise in applications from Mexican students.
As with most students many overseas applicants are choosing shared accommodation, because of the cost and more importantly to ensure they don't experience loneliness which will hamper their educational journey.
A UK rent guarantor service's survey found that international students are typically looking to co-rent HMOs in three to five bedrooms, shared bathroom and kitchen facilities, and will help them to make new friends.
Jeremy Robinson, managing director of the company, said: “Many international students opt to live initially in shared accommodation, so they have time to make some friends and then move to a flat to share, in their subsequent years at university.
“It can be very daunting starting student life in a new country and we have helped thousands find their first property with our UK guarantor service.”
