Number of Tenants Leaving due to Poor Conditions Dropping

11th Jun 2017

family

A specialist insurance firm's recent data shows that just 14% of private tenants since 2012 have left properties because of their bad condition, which has fallen from 19% in June 2016.

However only one hundred tenants were surveyed, but it does suggest that on the whole conditions are steadily on the increase across the private rented sector.

From its findings the data shows that since 2012 49% of those tenants that took part had left their rented property because of these reasons, wishing to move to another area, wanting to upgrade, their landlord was selling up, or the cost was too high.

A small number of tenants gave different reasons such as neighbours, unable to have pets, or problems with their landlord.

The insurer's spokesperson commented: “Two standout results for us. Firstly, that tenant moving due to bad property conditions has decreased, suggesting that let properties are being improved and invested in. And, for the first time, we see that tenants are moving because landlords are selling up".
