Council Jumps On Bandwagon Asking Landlords To Let Homes To Local Families

7th Jul 2023

North Somerset Council is inviting landlords to what is described as a ‘free event’ to be told about incentives and help being offered to those who can house local families.

The drop in event is open to all PRS landlords and individuals who are considering becoming a landlord which takes place next Wednesday 12th July.

The council is running a free lettings service and the team will be available to discuss the service to landlords and the available incentives for them to rent out their properties to local families; it will also be providing information, details and advice on the Renters Reform Bill.

The council’s team is on the look-out for landlords who will act responsibly on behalf of their tenants and if they do decide to come on board with the project it promises to give them long term support if any issues occur during a tenancy, and the guarantee of a free service without any hidden fees.

The lettings team can also help landlords with health and safety assessments as well as advice on any tenancy problems and offer guidance on the availability of grants and loans so a property can become available to let out.

As with most of the country average private rents in North Somerset are somewhat lower than the government’s Local Housing Allowance intended to help those on low incomes to be able to rent homes.

A council spokeswoman says: “While the cost of living crisis continues to have an impact on hard working families, we’re committed to tackling inequality across North Somerset.

“Everyone has the right to live in a safe, good quality home and I’m proud that we’re taking action to help those in need to find good quality, safe and affordable homes for a fairer North Somerset.

“If you’re a landlord, or planning to be in the future, come along to this free event to see how you can help and find out what our lettings team can offer you, including some reassurance on the new Renters (Reform) Bill which was introduced to Parliament in May this year.”

A national trade association and Citizens Advice will be attending the event.
