In Theresa May’s cabinet reshuffle, Gavin Barwell is the new Minister for Housing, Planning and London, succeeding Brandon Lewis who has been re-appointed as the Minister of State for Policing and Fire Service.
The Croydon Central MP Barwell is now part of the integrated team under Sajid Javid who was appointed as the new Department for Communities and Local Government’s Secretary.
Gavin Barwell has Twittered that he was “hugely honoured” in receiving his appointment by the new Prime Minister Theresa May.
He tweeted: “Looking forward to working with councils, housing associations, developers and investors to ensure we build the homes people need and deserve.
“And to working with the Mayor of London to ensure the continued success of our wonderful diverse capital - and that all Londoners share in it.”
Previous to his new appointment he had held a varied number of parliamentary private secretary roles. He also held the roles of the Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury, Assistant Government Whip as well as private secretary to the Minister of State for Decentralisation and Planning Policy and Secretary of State for Education.
