Wembley Landlord appeals against £1.4 million fine for illegal flats in Willesden.
A landlord who has been ordered to pay £1.4 million because of unlawfully converting one property into 12 separate flats, is set to appeal against the fine.
On top of this he was also ordered to pay a fine of £4,000 for the breach of the planning regulations and legal costs of almost £35,000.A restraint order has been put in place to stop him from “losing” his assets before he has settled the fine of £1.438 million.
A spokesman for Brent Council told the Times: “I can confirm that this case has gone to the court of appeal.”
The Times exclusively reported, after he was fined, that Brent Council had failed to check the legitimacy of the properties while accepting Council Tax payments from its tenants in the last six years.
A council spokesman said last September that: “Council Tax is a charge on residents for local services and occupants must pay regardless of any planning issues.”
