An investigative website has recently uploaded in the public domain the number of current MPs that are landlords.
Open Democracy that reports on and analyses world affairs that in its own words seeks to "challenge power and encourage democratic debate" across the world, says that in the current parliament there are 18 Labour MPs, 4 Scottish National Party MPs and a ‘high-riding’ 90 Conservative MPs who have declared an extra income as landlords.
All of the MPs declared in the official register of MPs’ interests that they each make an extra £10,000 plus from ‘PRS landlord activities’.
The real interesting point besides being 115 landlord MPs across all parties, this is in fact 18 per cent of the House of Commons whereas across UK adults only 3 per cent are landlords.
The Open Democracy site says out of the 115 MPs there are three extremely high profile Tories in the list, Prime Minister Boris Johnson, new Health Secretary Sajid Javid, and House of Commons leader Jacob Rees-Mogg*.
The Labour landlords include one in a significant position, Shadow Housing Secretary Lucy Powell, who lets out a room in her London flat with many of left activists from the Labour party condemning her action.
