Milton Keynes City Council is easing the financial burden for families living in temporary accommodation by making it more affordable to move into a private rented home.

The demand for council housing far exceeds its supply, with the city council currently       providing interim accommodation for over 1,000 eligible households. Many of these          families have attempted to secure private rental homes but have found them to be           unaffordable.

To assist more households in finding settled homes, the city council launched a new offer on World Homelessness Day (10 October) saying it will be paying the difference between the rent a landlord is reasonably expecting and what a prospective tenant can afford.

In addition to securing more stable accommodation, the council has determined that supplementing rents is more cost effective than arranging short-term housing which will save money.
