Let tenant’s eat cake clause

4th Mar 2016

A story recently appeared in the Mirror that told of a rather mischievous tenant who decided to add a clause into his tenancy agreement to satisfy his particular needs.

funny tenancy contract

The landlord had sent the tenancy agreement online to his tenants without realising the implications that could ensue, if he did not inspect the signed contract back thoroughly.

The enterprising tenant (s) shared the jape online on Reddit, saying that the landlord had sent a Word document and not a locked pdf. File, and they had inserted a new clause into the tenancy agreement.

The addition was a Cake clause saying that the landlord has an obligation to give them cake every year on the tenants’ birthdays.

The clause that was added states that the: "Lessor shall provide birthday cake for Lessee(s) in the weekend closest to their birthdays, which are June 7 and February 17."

One never knows that if the landlord has read the clause then he might just provide a cake for their cheek.
