Landlords stressed out by demands

1st Oct 2014

Most people are aware of the present "high" that is being experienced by the buy-to-let market, however increasing numbers of landlords are saying that they had not envisaged the pressures that came with the territory and that stress levels are rising each year.

The obvious main cause of stress being suffered by 58% of landlords, is through late and sporadic payments of rent from their tenants.

The second most common cause of stress  experienced by 40% of landlords, is having to fund repairs and property maintenance and 38% were overly concerned with their tax affairs.

The press regularly slates landlords as being mega rich draconian tyrants, who are only too ready to evict and prey upon their tenants. This is so far removed from the truth, as just half of landlords are forecasting over the next twelve months that they will not make any profit.

Just over 75% of landlords questioned said they were not prepared to throw in the towel and will continue to rent out their properties over the next year.

Simon Thandi, director of the company that held the questionnaire said: "Following the dramatic increase in landlords in the UK it’s not surprising that they are becoming more stressed. Letting properties is a serious business and with the number of so-called ‘accidental landlords’ increasing significantly it’s no surprise that landlords are feeling the pressure."
