More than half of landlords – 52 per cent – are very concerned by the Renters Reform Bill and how badly it will affect the sector with its proposed legislative changes, according to a comparison mortgage website’s research.
The research looks at the current state of BTL sector and the possible impact of the forthcoming Renters Reform Bill.
According to the research’s findings 44 per cent of landlords who took part said they would not take on tenants with pets, and of course one of the Bill’s proposed measures is that landlords will have to consider tenants with pets and cannot reasonably refuse.
Around 43 per cent of landlords will not take on Housing Benefit or Universal Credit recipients and 15 per cent will not consider those with children which will be made illegal once the Rental Reform Bill is passed.
Over half of landlords – 52.2 per cent – are very concerned over the sector’s future.
The research found 47.7 per cent of respondents are relatively confident and will not be selling any of their properties over the next two years, whilst 19.7 per cent have not made any plans.
Nearly one in ten landlords – 9.6 per cent – are making plans to sell up and leave the sector.
