Landlords buy to let loan arrears lowest since 2008

13th Jan 2015

Latest figures show that landlords loan arrears are the lowest for six years and that over the past three months it is the best since the first quarter of 2008.

There has been a month on month improvement since May 2014 with the decreasing number of landlords falling behind with their buy to let loans payments. This has resulted in the number falling by 7.4% between October and December of last year, in comparison to the preceding three months and equates to a 28.3% fall over a twelve month period.

According to a national estate agency chain's tenancy arrears tracker, landlords are now buoyed by their healthy finances that they are looking at increasing their portfolios.......and it is all down to tenants being more financially stable.

Adrian Gill, director of the chain, says. “Now, as tenants mend their income streams, both players in the rental market are supporting one another’s finances,”.

This is in spite of the dramatic rise of tenants unable or willing to pay their rent in the last three month of 2014, however the chain forecasts a very positive year for landlords.

Between October and December figures showed that 68,100 tenants were more than two months in arrears with their rent payments and those in severe arrears increased by 7.2% on an annual basis. Even with the record peak in the fourth quarter of 2014, these figures compared against the third quarter of 2012............ are 42% lower.
