A landlord returning from holiday was left sickened and disgusted upon discovering that one of her properties had been turned into a cannabis farm, obviously without her consent.
The landlord, Deborah Young, was horrified to find that her terraced house in Treforest, Rhonda Cynon Taf that had been rented out, was 'home' to 400 cannabis plants. After returning from her holiday in Scotland she discovered the farm complete with all the necessary equipment to sustain the plants; the property's windows had also been boarded up.
She said: "Upon returning to the property, we only got as far as the back door, but we went no further. I was in shock. I could see all of the branches littered all over the floor. It’s very frustrating. I’ve never seen anything like this in 40 years. I was told there were 137 plant pots in the living room, and altogether probably around 300 or 400 pots in the whole house."
The Devon and Cornwall Police are undertaking an investigation and as of yet have not found the tenants responsible.
The landlord owns four other properties in the same area but is intent on the selling the property that had been turned into a cannabis farm.
She continued: "That’s my feeling, just to clear it completely. It’s ruined the house. I guess this is the type of thing that goes on around here. There could be loads of these factories in the area. There are fewer and fewer students in Treforest despite the University of South Wales being here, as more and more want to move to Cardiff. There are loads of ‘for sale’ and ‘to let’ signs if you look around. The incident hasn’t put me off the area as such, because this is the first time I have seen anything like it, but it’s certainly put me off the house."
Richard Merrick of PIMS, said: "Unfortunately nowadays there are more reports of this happening to landlord's properties and one can never be too careful.....damage limitation is key."
