On Tuesday 18th April 2017 Theresa May announced that there would be a snap election. The next general election was scheduled for 2020, however a snap election can be called if there is a no confidence vote in government or if two thirds of MP’s vote for an early election.
A large majority of MP’s voted for an early election at 522 to 13, meaning a snap election has been called. Voting will occur on Thursday 8th June 2017.
As there are many events and deadlines scheduled in the lead up to an election, we have provided you with a detailed calendar which includes all the important dates and events.
Remember, you have the option to vote in person or by post. You must be registered to vote and be 18 years or over.
