An industry association is telling the government they must now take swift action to quell the ever increasing rental sector housing crisis.
It blames ministers for the sector’s lack of housing supply down to their failed anti-landlord policies that have ensured a daily exit of landlords along with their properties.
It has just been reported that Rightmove revealed that for each vacant rental home there are at least 25 potential tenants applying.
The industry association’s spokesperson commenting on the worsening crisis, said: “Tenants are bearing the brunt of the supply crisis in the rental market. This is a result of failed Government policies.
“Throughout the Conservative conference ministers said they wanted landlords to have the confidence to stay in the market. However, warm words will achieve nothing without policies to make this happen”.
He stressed the importance of the government of acting immediately to quell the exodus of landlords and rental properties across England, and said: “The Treasury needs to encourage investment by reversing the damaging tax hikes which penalise landlords who provide much-needed housing. It’s also crucial that the government makes clear assurances that landlords who make legitimate possession claims will not become mired in a broken court system once section 21 evictions are abolished.”
