The agents have studied applications data from UCAS that shows over half a million (560,000) students have logged in applications to start a full time undergraduate course across the UK for this academic year.
The good news is this is 2,500 higher than at the same time last year and is the first time for three years for an application increase.
The major factor is the increase in applications from overseas students which is 5.7% higher than the previous year and is the highest number ever from applicants outside of the UK.
Overseas students have not been deterred by the Brexit situation and as quoted by the agents it demonstrates “the ongoing global appeal of UK higher education.”
Nearly 20% of all student applications are from overseas.
The agency highlights that there is a significant rise in Chinese students as this year there is 33% more applications than the previous year.
In 2018 Chinese student applications increased by 20.6% from the previous academic year's input.
James Pullan, global head of student property at of the agents, says: "The Augar Review [of post-18 education] has the potential to throw-up new challenges for some universities and, while the latest figures suggest that ‘Brexit’ has not deterred overseas applicants, future demand is contingent on decisions surrounding the UK’s relationship with the EU. The medium and long-term picture however, remains bright, underpinned by positive demographics and the recently announced International Education Strategy."
