Government's Biggest Private Landlord Survey for 10 Years

4th Mar 2018

In what will be the biggest private rented sector survey for the last ten years, landlords and letting agents are being asked to take part to make their thoughts known on the future of the PRS.

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has contracted one of Britain’s largest independent social research agencies NatCen, to get in touch with 100,000 plus agents and landlords to offer their views.

NetCen said:"The more landlords and agents who take part, the more accurate the results will be".

Those landlords and agents chosen will be registered with one of the three government registered tenancy deposit schemes, mydeposits, The Tenancy Deposit Scheme and The Deposit Protection Scheme. The participants will be asked to provide opinions regarding the private rented sector and tenants.

Upon receiving the request from NatCen landlords and letting agents by letter or email, they will be given a unique code and a web link to input their views from the questions asked in the online survey.

Those taking part will be asked a series of questions on such topics as landlord finances, lettings and tenancy policy and practice, investment plans, taxation, as to whether they are willing to rent to most types of tenants, Universal Credit, energy efficiency and safety. Last but not least is their awareness of the government's requirements for the sector and compliancy.

The research agency states that the English Private Landlord Survey will be "the most authoritative evidence source on the profile and views of private landlords and their agents in England".

Once the results have been compiled they will be given to government ministers and officials alongside commentators and professionals from the private rented sector.
