A leading property services company's retail index that centres on Greater London shows that there is a widening gap of rents being charged across the capital and calculates that the figure stands at £4,411.
The cheapest average monthly rent was just £1,027 in the borough of Bexley, but the highest average monthly charge was in Kensington and Chelsea at £5,438. The same time last year shows that the gap between the highest and lowest average monthly rents charged has risen by £218,(from £4193 to the present £4,411).
The increase in the average monthly rent across the whole of Greater London over the last twelve months is 4.34% (£86.27) and 2.98% (£59.24) in the past three months to reach its current figure of £1,988.
The most constant charging of rents is in the borough of Kingston-upon-Thames with only an increase, year on year, of 0.11 per cent. The average monthly rent across the borough presently stands at £1,668.
The borough that comes out on top with the smallest increase in rents over three months of just 0.08 per cent, equivalent to a £1.08 rise, is Lewisham.
The director of the company Robin King said: “Rents across London have always differed greatly but the gap in the current market is extremely wide.
"Anyone looking to rent in the capital should do their homework as rents can significantly vary from borough to borough.
"A tenant’s best option is to look for a borough with reasonable rental prices that are rising slowly, such as Kingston-upon-Thames and Lewisham, and that are also on a commuter route that suits their individual needs.”
