Cumbrian landlords given chance of funded central heating systems

8th Aug 2016

Cumbrian landlords have the opportunity of receiving grants from the council to install oil or gas central heating systems, however funding will only be available for up to 250 rented homes.

The Department for Energy and Climate Change has awarded a grant to the council which has set up the Cumbria Heating Fund and handed out by Allerdale Borough Council, Carlisle City Council, Eden District Council, South Lakeland District Council and npower.

The grants will be handed out on a first come first served basis however the private rented properties must first qualify.

A property’s eligibility for a grant is that it must not have an existing main gas connection or central heating system that is run by gas or oil.

Some properties that have a solid fuel back boiler and are partially centrally heated, at least one room does not have a radiator, or manual charged controlled storage heaters, may still be eligible to apply.

The council is also willing to help landlords who want to improve insulation in their properties, including grants of up to 100% for cavity wall and loft insulation.

Landlords can apply to the Cumbria Central Heating Fund at - The Housing Team, Eden District Council, Mansion House, Penrith, and Cumbria.CA11 7YG

Or call: 01768 817817 – but remember that it is on a first come first saved basis.
