Council Inundated With Hundreds Of Tenants Complaints – Only Two Prosecutions

24th Jan 2022

An authority has just owned up to the fact that it has received more than a thousand tenants’ complaints regarding their landlords which it has had to investigate and culminated with just two cases going to court as deemed as worthwhile.

Watford council has been contacted by the media and said that over the last three years it has been inundated with 421 complaints about landlords, 169 regarding  HMOs issues and 759 services’ complaints.

Unbelievably the council admitted that “a small minority” - a paltry two - were taken to court.

Councillor Stephen Johnson, in charge of the council’s the portfolio for commercial planning and housing,  contacted by the Watford Observer said that all complaints are investigated and the best way to address issues is to work in ‘partnership’ with tenants to resolve their problems.

He said: “Where this doesn’t work we will take formal action and we have cases on going at present.”
