Council takes matters in hand and demolishes bed in shed

1st Sep 2014

Hillingdon Council sent in their own enforcement team and flattened a bed in shed property and then charged the landlord by sending him the bill for their actions.

This is the second time that the council has proceeded with such action and promises to carry out more, if unlawful outbuildings continue to be rented out to private tenants.

However the council had previously been in contact with the owner trying to reach an agreement over the unlawful structure in the town of Hayes, but to no avail.

Eventually they served an enforcement notice on the owner of the property and the tenant, giving them three months to follow the orders.

The council then ordered the owner to stop renting the shed out to the tenant and to tear the building down.

Receiving no reply from the recipients of the notice, the council had had enough and stormed in and demolished the building...... for the owner. The people living there decided it was best to leave under their own free will and also sent a bill to the owner for costs.

The council did say that although this was the second time they had to take such action, other landlords/owners had in fact heeded the notices, by tearing down their own unlawful outbuildings themselves.
