Another call for help from a council to private landlords.
Enfield Council is introducing a new rental scheme aimed at securing long-term leases from private landlords to ease reliance on costly short-term emergency accommodation. The initiative targets suitable properties that can be leased for extended periods, offering families in need greater housing stability.
By prioritising longer-term agreements, the council hopes to foster stronger partnerships with landlords, promising competitive and consistent rental returns in exchange for greater predictability and reduced turnover.
The council’s statement states “This would be very much welcome given the stagnant rental market and ongoing housing crisis in England.
“By investing in longer-term solutions, the council is ensuring that families are supported into settled homes and landlords can confidently work with us. This long-lease scheme marks a crucial step forward. It will reduce costs for the council and offer households the stability and dignity they deserve.”
