Capita Tenancy Deposit Protection, one of four Government-backed deposit schemes, has stopped taking applications from landlords and agents to protect tenancy deposits under its insurance-based scheme, less than sixth months after launching the service, we can exclusively reveal.
The surprising news is embarrassing for the firm and the Government which only awarded a contract to Capita TDP to operate the scheme from 1 April 2013, earlier this year, in a bid to increase competition in the sector, raise greater consumer awareness and potentially drive down the cost of the service.
In a short statement issued to The Negotiator Editor, Marc Da Silva, a spokesperson for Capita, said, “In agreement with DCLG and DSD, Capita is no longer accepting new deposits to its tenancy deposit scheme.”
