£10,000 Purse Offered to Reporter by Buy-to-Let Mogul

10th Mar 2017

It must be a couple of months since the UK’s largest private landlord Fergus Wilson made a song and dance in the press; however this latest story is unlikely ever to be surpassed.

Fergus Wilson has issued a challenge to a local reporter after he insulted Wilson's racing colt in a newspaper.

The buy-to-let property tycoon owns many hundreds of private rental properties around Kent and its surrounding areas. He furiously called for a bout after the newspaper apparently made an error when writing about one of his race horses.

It is probably not widely known that Wilson was a former professional boxer and at 69 years old and weighing in at 22 stone has thrown down the gauntlet to Ed McConnell the senior reporter of the newspaper. He has offered to give the reporter £10,000 if he can last one round with him in a bare knuckle fight.

The 24 year old reporter weighs in at 15 stone and has never boxed, started the argument by labeling Wilson's three year old colt Maidstone Mixture as 'the worst race horse in history'.

Wilson has appeared in the national media a few times over the past year for not accepting battered wives, plumbers or people on benefits as tenants. He has crossed swords with McConnell on some of his left wing views, however Wilson passionately believes that the reporter is totally wrong with his assessment of the race horse....and is prepared to put his body on the line for the colt's honour.

Fergus Wilson said: “The long and the short of it is I look upon Ed as being a bit left wing and I think I have left wing tendencies myself but I mellow it with a bit of common sense which he doesn’t.

“Maidstone Mixture came first twice and netted £40,000, that would generally be seen as a good horse but Ed pooh-poohed it. He doesn't know much about horse racing, not many reporters do. I give him stories but all he does is belittle them.”

Wilson continued: “I made an offer to fight him and I'm quite happy to get in the ring with him. It should be bare-knuckles I think.

“I don't think it's a fair fight. I think it would be very unkind of me to do it as I’d hurt him very badly which I really would not want to do.

“If I set about his face in a fight I would really make a mess of it.”

There is a 'rumour that someone' may have approached the Sky Pay-Per-View Channel to grant them exclusive rights if the fight ever comes off.
